Leung, M.D. Associate Program Director Welcome to the Psychiatry Residency Program in the department of psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. This four-year program is accredited through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, or ACGME. We are proud of our program and pride ourselves in providing an outstanding training experience in psychiatry. Our program provides a comprehensive, clinically rich environment for you to learn your chosen profession. Rotations emphasize experiences in a variety of settings that include the full range of patients with psychiatric disorders. You will learn under the supervision of our seasoned psychiatrists trained at some of the country’s finest programs. Residents receive rich clinical education on rotations at our outpatient psychiatry clinics, UF Health Jacksonville hospital and with our highly respected community partners: Baptist Medical Center Wolfson Children’s Hospital Gateway Community Services, which provides addiction services Sulzbacher Center, a homeless shelter with a strong mental health treatment and a street psychiatry outreach program Renaissance Behavioral Health, a community mental health agency Throughout sites, residents will identify how psychiatric care extends beyond the hospital or clinic into daily life and how inter-professional care and teamwork can increase access to effective interventions for marginalized and excluded populations. Areas of particular strength include child and adolescent psychiatry (with early exposure in the PGY-2 year), addictions, neuromodulation strategies, and community psychiatry. Residents will graduate with a thorough knowledge of psychiatric assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology and epidemiology of psychiatric illness, biopsychosocial formulation and treatment planning (including psychopharmacology, assertive community treatment and multiple forms of psychotherapy). When you complete our training program, you will not only be an excellent psychopharmacologist, but also a psychiatrist well-rounded in psychosocial interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Our unique involvement within the Jacksonville community will teach residents treatment planning that not only focuses on biological, psychological, and social needs of individual patients but also the broader needs of population health.
