Welcome to the department of psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. We have a vibrant and growing department that brings state-of-the-art psychiatric care, educational programs and research to improve the lives of persons with mental illness in Jacksonville and surrounding areas.

Our mission is to develop the highest quality clinical and educational programs based on the latest research.

Our core values are to always be client- and family-centered, culturally sensitive and evidence-based with a strong focus on prevention.

Due to the relative shortage of child psychiatrists in the area, developing child and adolescent psychiatry clinical programs is a major focus of the department.

Our services for adults at the main campus include outpatient evaluations; medication management; individual, group and family therapy; and consultation services for patients hospitalized at UF Health Jacksonville.

Developing a research agenda will also be a focus for us. Members of the department are already involved in several projects, including a longitudinal study of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the community funded by the Centers for Disease Control, a study of psychiatric illnesses in children and adolescents with diabetes previously funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and studies to improve the care of people suffering acute trauma. We plan to expand our research into other areas including the development of prevention programs.
